Travel League Coach

YOUR JOB AS TRAVEL COACH

As travel coach you must accomplish all the goals of the house and select coaches but now you are also expected to win!

This is not the expectation of the organization nor should it be of the coach. However, it does tend to be the opinion of most parents! They, as parents, need to understand that success on this level is not measured in wins and losses but by how their children improve both individually and as a team.

Team play must be emphasized over individual accomplishments. The coach must make clear to both players and parents that " The good of the many outweighs the good of the one". When you as a coach must decide who will be on the ice in a critical situation, everyone must understand it is not personal, but only situational!

As a coach you must understand that players and parents have feelings which can, and sadly will be hurt. Do your best to understand this and hopefully they will help you to become a better coach.

Communication: Is the key to building a strong and healthy relationship between both players and parents. This is important at every level of hockey.
